The Canadian Ecology Centre hits a nerve with Eco Camps
The Canadian Ecology Centre site at Mattawa is deceptively rustic in appearance. Teachers and students stay in wood cabins in the middle of 2,500 hectares of unspoiled nature and history. However, they have integrated technology and modern thinking into every structure.
Don Curry of CEC worked with Big Online this year to locate funders. Don says Big Online has been invaluable in qualifying searches, and showing how the Canadian Ecology Centre fits with a particular foundation's mandate - AND they have the results to prove it.
The "Teach Green" camp for teachers that encourages them to build environmental education into the curriculum was funded by EJLB - with $12,500, this year. They have also been asked to reapply next year for $30,000.
Eco Camps for high school students, who receive a science credit for attending, attracted $10,000 from Chawkers Foundation and $10,000 from the George Cedric Metcalfe Foundation.
