Health Care Students Get a Lift
I wanted to let you know that the Educational Foundation of the College of the Rockies, located in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia, has had some very fortunate funding recently, thanks to Metasoft and their huge information database, BIG Online!
One of our Deans at the Cranbrook campus requested that I seek funding for new lift equipment for our Nursing, Licensed Practical Nursing and Resident Care Home Support Technician programs. Our equipment has been outdated for a number of years making it difficult for our students, who are experienced on this older equipment, to go into placements where they are unfamiliar with newer technology.
I decided to search BIG Online (my favourite web site) and see what I could find. In October of 2000, I wrote and submitted five proposals. In April, 2001, I received a $1000 cheque from the FK Morrow Foundation. The College was very pleased, so with the support from the FK Morrow Foundation, I decided to write four more proposals, noting the support from this fabulous foundation in Ontario.
From the four additional proposals I submitted, we had a fifty percent positive response rate. I have since received another $1000 in the mail from Fording Inc., and the Mr. & Mrs. P.A. Woodward's Foundation has also indicated their support for the project. I am anxiously awaiting their decision to contribute the remaining funds needed. I have been told that a final decision will be made at their Board of Directors meeting in October.
We are so pleased to be able to purchase new equipment for our Health programs! Over the past year, we have also received $2000 from the Hamber Foundation (Bursaries for Women) and $2000 from Labatt's towards equipment (canoes/paddles) for our Mountain Activity Skills Training program in Fernie.
Thanks Metasoft. The information you provide is absolutely EXCELLENT!
